🎭 Contest Categories
Craftsmanship
For those who have handmade 50% or more of their cosplay. Duos and small groups are welcome. Bring a build book with at least 1 reference photo and 5 progress photos — the more the better! Prejudging will be held ahead of the main contest.
Masquerade
For store-bought or closet cosplays — no craftsmanship judging here. Scoring is based entirely on stage presence. Get into character, work that stage, and make it your moment!
Cosplays based on unlicensed or original characters may enter but will be placed in the Masquerade category unless 50% or more was handmade. Art of the character is highly encouraged for judges.
🏆 Awards
Both Craftsmanship and Masquerade will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners — 6 winners total. Prizes will be announced when awarded. Additionally, each of the 3 judges will select a personal Judge's Choice award open to both categories.
⭐
Best Retro Cosplay
Our convention special award! To qualify, your cosplay must be from media considered retro. Open to both Craftsmanship and Masquerade entrants as long as it fits the retro criteria.
📋 Main Stage Rules
- All contestants must adhere to the General Cosplay Rules and dress code.
- Please inform our cosplay coordinator if you have any unconventional plans beyond walking on and off the stage.
- Not allowed on stage: gymnastics, roller skates or wheels of any kind, open flames, confetti, or anything requiring sweeping or mopping. Please don't make a mess.
- All contestants are expected to show excellent sportsmanship and respect toward the audience, fellow contestants, judges, and cosplay staff. Unsportsmanlike behavior will result in disqualification and a ban from future SJRC cosplay contests.

SJRC Family Cosplay Showcase
A family and kid-focused cosplay event held on Sunday — no craftsmanship judging, just fun! Anyone under 15, or families cosplaying together, are welcome to enter.
Sign up at the cosplay sector on the day of the event. You'll receive a number and a time and location to meet. When the time comes, families and kids will gather and parade around the vendor hall, ending at the main stage. Judges will watch as everyone walks the stage — stop and strike a pose for a fun family photo!
Scoring is based on how clever your family cosplay is and stage presence. Goody bags will be given to all children (and adults who want one), with prizes announced during the contest. This is a family-friendly, all-ages event — be good sports and have fun!
Duos of parents/guardians and children may enter Craftsmanship on Saturday, but will not be allowed to re-enter the following day's showcase.
